Why I Built Skilltide: A New Roadmap for Your Career
Stop Guessing, Start Growing
For years, I navigated my career the way most of us do: relying on a mix of gut feelings, fragmented advice from peers, and endless scrolling through job boards that all started to look the same. After one particularly frustrating 3-month job search, I realized the core problem: our professional identity is scattered.
Our real-world skills live in our GitHub commits, our professional network is on LinkedIn, and our formal history is on a PDF resume. But no single tool was connecting these dots to give a clear, honest answer to the question: "What should I do next?"
The Problem with the Old Way
The modern job market moves incredibly fast. The skills that are in-demand today might be table stakes tomorrow. Relying on an outdated CV or a sparse LinkedIn profile is like trying to navigate a new city with a map from 10 years ago. You'll eventually get somewhere, but probably not by the best route.
I knew there had to be a way to create a more dynamic, data-driven career roadmap. That's why I started building Skilltide.
// The goal: a data-driven career plan
const careerPlan = {
currentProfileScore: 75,
goalRole: 'Senior Frontend Lead',
marketDemand: 'High',
skillGaps: ['System Design', 'Team Mentorship'],
actionItems: ['Build a scalable side-project', 'Lead a feature sprint'],
};
The idea for Skilltide started with a question: what if you could score your professional footprint - your GitHub, LinkedIn, and CV - to see exactly where you stand?
Then, what if you could take that score and benchmark it against the live job market, analyzing thousands of fresh, open vacancies to see what skills are actually in demand right now? By connecting your personal profile to real-world data, Skilltide was born. It's designed to give you a clear, AI-powered roadmap to your dream role, based not on guesses, but on the reality of the market.
This blog will be a place to explore these ideas further. Welcome aboard.
